Every year, there are new conferences that take place in Indianapolis. For example: last year brought us the Indiana Governor's Conference for Women, and the year before launched the first Verge PowderKeg. This year, there are more events than ever before that I'm excited about attending.
5. A New Type of Brew Bracket
Though formalized details have yet to be released, my contact assures me that this year will see a new type of event from this fantastic series that highlights local Indiana breweries. Past events focused on one type of beer, pitting local brewers against each other with a tournament style blind voting process. RAM currently holds the record for most wins, having produced the best Oktoberfest, Amber, and Bourbon Barrel Aged Beer.
4. Indianapolis Comic Con
The promoters behind Tampa Bay Comic Con, Orlando Comic Con, and Nashville Comic Expo will be expanding their reach into Indianapolis, bring our first Comic Con. This three-day event will take place from March 14-16 and will include booths of Comics, Cosplay,Videos, and more. The current list of guests includes Evan Peters (American Horror Story, Kickass), Caity Lotz (Arrow, MadMen), and Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones).
3. Lemonade Day Indianapolis Lemonpalooza
Set to on the Circle downtown, this celebration of Lemonade Day Indianapolis and its sponsors will take place on April 24th. Though details are still being finalized, people will be able to learn more about Lemonade Day while experiencing a fun break (and enjoy some delicious lemonade).
2. Indy Big Data
Indianapolis' first Big Data conference will teach attendees how to harness and use Big Data. Speakers include Lisa Arthur (Teradata Applications), Chris Baggott (Tyner Pond Farm and Husk LLC) and Brian Rowe (Perceivant Technology). Indy Big Data is coming up on February 11, so be sure to register soon! They even include a handy guide to persuading your boss to let attend.
1. Indy Pop Con
Run by Indianapolis natives, this new pop culture convention taking place from May 30- June 1 has been gaining momentum since they first announced the creating of the event. During #Popconuary, they are announcing a new guest/event/exhibitor every day, culminating with a major guest announcement. Though the list of panels and events is still being figured out, they will at least be presenting on Kickstarter- Hitting the Mark after successfully using said platform to fund a second hall for the conference. At only $45 for the 3-day pass, tickets are a definite bargain to see guests like Joel Hodgson (Mystery Science Theater 3000), John DiMaggio (Futurama, Adventure Time), and Esmé Bianco (Game of Thrones).
